Mickey worked briefly as an Assistant State Attorney, and then 7 years as a Public Defender before venturing into private practice. Mickey was instrumental in the passing of the Broward County Drug Court Law. He drafted and Lobbied Florida Legislation allowing dismissal of charges for drug offenders who successfully complete a treatment and education program.
